Glutathione (600mg Vial) Dosage Protocol

Overview

Glutathione is a tripeptide antioxidant composed of glutamine, cysteine, and glycine that supports cellular defense mechanisms. High-purity reduced L-glutathione (≥99%) is supplied in 600 mg vials for research applications focused on oxidative stress reduction, detoxification support, and cellular protection.

What It Is

Glutathione (L-γ-glutamyl-L-cysteinyl-glycine) functions as the body’s primary endogenous antioxidant, neutralizing reactive oxygen species, maintaining cellular redox balance, and supporting detoxification pathways through conjugation reactions.

Administration Method

Subcutaneous (SC) Injection – Parenteral administration provides better bioavailability compared to oral intake, which faces significant first-pass metabolism.

Reconstitution Instructions

– Add 3.0 mL bacteriostatic water to 600 mg vial
– Final concentration: 200 mg/mL
– Inject water slowly down vial wall to minimize foaming
– Gently swirl until fully dissolved (do not shake vigorously)
– Solution should remain clear to pale yellow
– Label with reconstitution date and refrigerate immediately

Dosage Protocol

Standard/Gradual Approach

Phase Per-Injection Dose Units (mL) Frequency
Weeks 1-2 100 mg 50 units (0.50 mL) 3x weekly
Weeks 3-8+ 200 mg 100 units (1.0 mL) 3x weekly

Typical Schedule: Monday/Wednesday/Friday
Weekly Total: 300 mg (initiation) to 600 mg (maintenance)
Recommended Duration: 8-12 weeks (optional extension to 16 weeks)

Unit Conversion

At 200 mg/mL concentration: 1 unit = 0.01 mL = 2 mg on a U-100 insulin syringe

Storage Guidelines

Lyophilized Vials:
– Store at −20 °C (−4 °F) in dry, dark conditions
– Keep sealed until reconstitution

Reconstituted Solution:
– Refrigerate at 2–8 °C (35.6–46.4 °F)
– Stable for up to 28 days with bacteriostatic water
Do NOT freeze reconstituted solution (causes precipitation)
– Protect from light exposure
– Discard any discolored or cloudy solutions

Injection Technique

1. Clean work surface and gather supplies
2. Perform hand hygiene
3. Select injection site (lower abdomen 5+ cm from navel, outer thigh, or upper arm)
4. Clean site with alcohol swab; allow to dry completely (15-30 seconds)
5. Clean vial stopper with fresh alcohol swab
6. Draw prescribed dose; check for air bubbles
7. Pinch approximately 1 inch of subcutaneous tissue
8. Insert needle at 45-90° angle into pinched skin
9. Release pinch and slowly depress plunger
10. Withdraw needle and apply gentle pressure with gauze
11. Dispose in sharps container immediately
12. Document date, site, and dose

Important: Rotate injection sites systematically to reduce local irritation. Use new sterile insulin syringes (29-31 gauge) for each injection.

Supplies Needed (Per 12-Week Cycle)

Glutathione vials: 12 vials (7,200 mg total)
Insulin syringes (U-100, 1 mL): 36 syringes
Bacteriostatic water: 2 x 30 mL bottles (36 mL needed)
Alcohol swabs: 1 x 100-count box

Potential Benefits

– Supports reduction of oxidative stress markers
– May assist detoxification through Phase II conjugation pathways
– Research indicates potential improvements in sperm motility (600 mg IM daily for 2 months)
– Cosmetic applications explored skin effects with 600-1,200 mg weekly protocols

Side Effects & Safety

– Generally well tolerated
– Most common: mild localized injection site reactions (redness, minor irritation)
– Rare: headache or mild GI discomfort at higher doses
– No significant safety concerns reported in clinical studies at moderate doses
– Proper aseptic technique essential to prevent infection

Lifestyle Considerations

– Maintain adequate dietary protein (cysteine is rate-limiting for synthesis)
– Include sulfur-rich foods: cruciferous vegetables, alliums
– Minimize oxidative stressors: reduce alcohol, avoid tobacco
– Support sleep quality and stress management
– Consider complementary antioxidants (vitamin C, E, selenium)

Important Notes

– This protocol is for research and educational purposes only
– Not intended for human consumption
– Consult qualified healthcare professionals before beginning any protocol
– Inject slowly and steadily; glutathione is well tolerated subcutaneously
– Document all injections for protocol consistency
– Do not recap needles; use sharps container
– Aspiration is not necessary for subcutaneous injections
